The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi (KNUST) has postponed reopening for the 2026/2027 academic year indefinitely, citing the ongoing strike by the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA).
The University was originally scheduled to reopen on October 13, 2026.
The postponement was announced in a statement dated October 9, 2026, signed by the University Relations Officer, Dr Daniel Norris Bekoe, on behalf of the Registrar.
“This decision has become necessary in view of the ongoing strike action by the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA) and its impact on the University's effective operations and administration,” the statement said.
Management advised students, parents, guardians and other stakeholders to take note of the postponement, adding that a revised reopening date would be communicated in due course.
“The University Management will provide further updates on the revised re-opening date in due course,” it said.
Management expressed regret for any inconvenience caused by the postponement and thanked stakeholders for their understanding and cooperation.
